What information do I need to submit a meal receipt?

Through the Meals module, you can receive allowances for food expenses. Here you can find out what information your receipt must contain and which costs can be reimbursed via the Meals module.

In the first section, you will find a video explaining how to correctly submit a proof of purchase for Meals.

Through the become.1 Meals module, employers provide a virtual meal allowance. You can upload receipts for meal expenses in the become.1 application to receive a subsidy for them.

Here you can find out how to upload receipts.

What can be reimbursed?

The Meals module can be used to reimburse the costs of meals on working days. In addition, up to 5 drinks can be submitted in connection with a meal. Regardless of the receipt amount, due to legal regulations, a maximum of €7.67 (€4.57 flat-rate taxed & €3.10 tax-free) will be reimbursed.

What cannot be reimbursed?

The following costs cannot be reimbursed:

  • Non-consumable items (e.g., cigarettes, deposit/pfand, delivery fees, tips, etc.)
  • Dietary supplements
  • Bulk purchases / weekly groceries
    • Why are weekly groceries not accepted? Legally, only one proof of purchase may be submitted and approved per working day. Each receipt can only be considered once for the purchase date stated on it. Under tax law, the purchase date is considered the exact date of consumption. Splitting a bulk purchase over several days is therefore not permitted.
  • Alcoholic beverages

Required information for submission

The receipt serves as proof of your meal. The proof is independent of the provider – whether it is a restaurant, supermarket, or bakery. The following information must be clearly visible on the proof:

  • Date of service (purchase date)
  • Name of the provider
  • Address of the provider
  • Service/items purchased
  • Costs

Payout of the allowance

The payout of your meal allowance will be made in the following month via your salary payment.
