🇦🇹 What information do I need to submit a mobility subsidy in Austria?

Through the become.1 Mobility module, you can easily receive tax-subsidized reimbursements for your mobility expenses from your employer. In this article, you will learn what proof and information you need for your submission, which tickets are eligible, and what to keep in mind regarding multi-year transport passes.

Which trips and tickets can I submit?

The Mobility module exclusively reimburses costs for travel using public transportation (e.g., trains, buses, and local transit systems such as the Vienna U-Bahn).

Eligible tickets:

  • Weekly, monthly, or annual passes (e.g., network passes, route passes, Klimaticket, ÖBB ÖsterreichCard, etc.).
  • The public transit ticket must entitle you to travel at either your place of residence or your place of work (the subsidy is not restricted strictly to the commute between home and the workplace).

IMPORTANT (Non-eligible tickets): Single-ride tickets and day passes are not reimbursable. Additionally, only trips taken within Austria are eligible for subsidies.

Step-by-Step Guide: Submitting a Mobility Receipt

You can flexibly submit your receipt using the become.1 mobile app or the web application:

  1. Open the become.1 app on your device or log in to the web application.
  2. Navigate to the Mobility module.
  3. Click the button to upload receipts and select your proof as a PDF file or photo.
  4. Enter the date of service.
  5. Input the travel costs.
  6. Complete the submission to send your receipt for review.

Notes, Tips & Special Cases

1. Splitting multi-year tickets (e.g., Klimaticket)

IMPORTANT (Calendar year rule): Per calendar year, only the costs allocated to the months of the current calendar year can be reimbursed.

  • Example: If you purchase a Klimaticket during 2026 that is valid for 6 months in 2026 and 6 months in 2027, only half of the total cost (for the 6 months in the current year) can be reimbursed in 2026. The remaining cost for 2027 must be submitted in 2027.

2. Transferability of tickets

The public transit ticket may generally be transferable or, for instance, be a family ticket.

ℹ️ NOTE: Only the costs that would arise solely for the employee themselves or for a non-transferable ticket are eligible for benefits.

3. Using the ticket for business travel

If the subsidized transit ticket is also used for business trips, no additional travel expense reimbursements may be claimed for the routes covered by that ticket.

Payout of the Subsidy

The payout of your approved mobility subsidy occurs automatically in the following month along with your regular salary payment.
